Schneiderman, Trump, and Weinstein are the White Male Centipede (‘Escape From Plan A’ Ep. 27)

A couple of weeks ago, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman was brought down by the fact that he was a disgusting and abusive scumbag to women, all the while presenting himself as a progressive feminist champion. In the #MeToo era, this kind of hypocrisy is no longer surprising. Along with Trump and Weinstein, Schneiderman is the latest mortal wound to the idea of white benevolence, especially white male benevolence. Teen, Chris, and Mark talk about how this has freed Asian Americans to develop our own unique political and cultural viewpoints.

The following are edited excerpts from “Schneiderman, Trump, and Weinstein are the White Male Centipede”, the 27th episode of Plan A’s podcast, Escape From Plan A.

What has been so central to the mainstream Asian American liberal ideology is this idea that white people, especially white men, are your path to overcoming whatever is holding you back in becoming more American and leaving behind all the bad things about being Asian, taking with you the things that are salvageable like food, festivals, and clothes.

It is interesting to note the personal dynamics, which are important, the way that treatment of minorities differs by gender and that affects us at a daily personal level. But I do think it’s worth reading articles like [the Counterpunch article] and see how it’s a symptom of a bigger system. People should read more leftist critiques of neoliberalism.

You saw how Asian Americans are seen [by Democrats]. The Podesta emails come out and they’re just using us. And if they can’t beat someone like Trump, then why should I have this allegiance to this party? Obviously, this doesn’t mean I’m going to become a conservative and a Republican, but I’m not going to wait to be accepted anymore.
